1946
It all begins in 1946, when Paul Grand'Maison creates his heating oil distribution and burner service company. At that time, conversion from wood stoves to wick ignition oil heating systems is the trend. The operation consisted in installing two wick burners in the wood stove and a glass jug filled with heating oil to supply the newly converted unit.

At that time, heating oil delivery was done using 45-gallon barrels located in sheds or on the house's balcony. Customers would transfer heating oil themselves manually, from this reserve to their glass jug, to supply the heating appliance.

1957
During the first 11 commercial business years, the company was operated from the private residence located at 21, Brière Street in Saint-Jerome. It is only in 1957 that Paul Grand'Maison acquired land located at 10, Brière Street in Saint-Jerome. Since then, business operations are managed there.

1971
Paul Grand'Maison dies in September 1971, leaving the company to his five sons: Gilles, Yves, Robert, Alain and Marc.

1980
The oil crisis hits the industry in 1980, and several companies are helpless and cannot cope. At Grand'Maison, the period was extremely difficult, but, as with a small number of companies in the industry, it was able to overcome this crisis and come out on top, thanks to good management.

During this thorny phase, two of the five Grand'Maison brothers decide to leave the company and sell their shares to Yves, Alain and Marc. With the will, passion, and love of the family company, they succeeded in overcoming the unforgettable oil crisis together.

1985
In 1985, an association with the major oil company Shell Canada changes the family company's destiny forever. This new partnership offered several advantages then, including guaranteed supply, impeccable quality products, participation in promotions and the use of Shell® brand products. Grand'Maison thus adopted a new name, Grand'Maison Shell, and entered into an ideal businesses model, spurring the company's growth.

Along with the development of the commercial lubricants, diesel and other fuel sales sector, at one time Grand'Maison Shell distributed its fuels to nearly 25 gasoline stations under the Shell banner.

Since then, with a great reputation for its personalized service in the region, Grand'Maison Shell benefits from an exclusive agreement to supply all of the Laurentides territory.

1989-1990
In 1989, the "Chambre de commerce et de l'industrie de Saint-Jérôme" named Grand'Maison Shell as a finalist for the Zenith prize in the Investment category.

It is only in 1990 that the "Chambre de commerce et de l'industrie de Saint-Jérôme" recognizes the company's dynamism and qualifies it as a finalist in the Employment and Commercial entreprise of the year categories of the Zenith prize. Proudly, Grand'Maison Shell wins the coveted Zenith prize, in the Commercial enterprise of the year category.

To be recognized by your peers is quite gratifying and procured a lot of satisfaction.

1996
Sons Yves and Alain Grand'Maison decide to go into a well-deserved retirement and sell their shares to their brother Marc and his family in 1996.

With the objective of maintaining the family company's growth and longevity, Marc, his wife Louise and their children Michel, Lyne and Pascal give a new boost to the company's development by focusing on sales and service quality.

1997
At the beginning of 1997, considering the evident success of its partnership with Shell Canada, Grand'Maison decides to renew this agreement. At the same time, Grand'Maison Shell's exclusive territory is expanded to serve a bigger region; this territory now extends from Lorraine to Grenville (East-West), Laval to Mont-Tremblant up to Saint-Donat.

1998
This time, it's Shell Canada's turn to recognize Grand'Maison Shell's performance and awards it the "Prix de l'amélioration des affaires Shell" (Shell prize for business improvement) in 1998. This prize is awarded to the Shell distributor that has shown the most professional commitment to growth of the business, throughout the whole Shell Canada network. This prestigious prize was received with a lot of pride.

2001
A difficult year for the family due to the accidental death of Michel Grand'Maison. His father Marc's successoral plan is consequently applied, leaving the company's management to his children Lyne and Pascal.

Today
The third generation of the family company is young, dynamic, and ensures the growth and survival of the project in which Paul Grand'Maison (grandfather) poured his heart and life. No company in this industry sector has existed longer than ours, nor has had a reputation such as ours.
